China will start to manufacture joints for large-diameter pipes

Chinese company "Hangan", a member of "Hualing Hanyang" corporation, is the first among Chinese manufacturers to master the production of joints for steel large-diameter pipes. Joints if 720 mm were successfully created for seamless pipes of 446 mm in diameter with wall thickness of 25.5 mm and length 8500 mm, which were put to rolling, cutting, annealing, calibration and other stages. Investment into this project amounts to 1 billion yuans ($147 millions).
The present technology permits to manufacture thick-walled seamless steel pipes with the help of press forming. Thereby, the range of products has been expanded from 8 - 365 mm up to 8 – 720 mm, wall thickness from 30 mm up to 120 mm. "Hangan" is one of the few enterprises in the world and is the first in China which has mastered the production of seamless pipes of the whole dimension range, that allows to create specific serial projects for power stations, oil, construction, mechanical engineering industries, i.e. in such spheres where thick-walled seamless large-diameter pipes are in great demand. Especially it is needed at power stations boilers and nuclear power plants.
According to the company’s press release the joints output next year will amount to 200 000 tons. In 2009 the output volume has to be 35 000 tons. The production of pipes of 720 mm diameter and 120 mm wall thickness will be started already in August.
